When the body says no — 10 minute meditation for burnout
For the capable, driven person who suddenly cannot push through: hearing the body's no as protection, not failure.
About this meditation
Burnout in capable, driven people: exhaustion that logic and willpower cannot fix, the nervous system's no as protection rather than failure, and old survival patterns running on autopilot through chronic stress and hormonal change.

For the next ten minutes, nothing is required of you. This is time to find the amount of effort your body can carry today, without making its limits a personal failure.
Let sounds arrive and leave on their own.
Let the room make whatever sound it makes.
See if you can find the farthest sound.
You do not need to name it or place it.
Now find the closest sound available to you.
Maybe it is close enough that it barely registers.
Let that sound come and go without following it.
Include the sound your own breathing makes.
It can be one sound among all the others.
For a moment, let the room be just sounds arriving and leaving.
Thoughts will keep showing up, because that is what minds do. Getting lost is not failure. Catching that you drifted and coming back is the repetition that matters.
Come back to where your body is held by the chair, bed, or floor.
Find the heaviest point of contact beneath you. Stay there for one full out-breath.
Before the next in-breath begins, check whether the pressure changes anywhere at that contact point.
Years of carrying a lot can leave the system braced for the next thing. Stress, illness, or hormonal changes, including menopause, can make an old alarm easier to trigger.
Find one place doing more work than the chair or floor is asking it to do. It might be your jaw, shoulders, belly, hands, or forehead.
Keep your attention around its edges. Reduce its effort by the smallest amount you can detect, then compare the contact beneath you before and after.
If it feels okay, place a hand over or beside the area that showed the clearest extra effort.
For three breaths, do not try to improve it. Find whether it stays the same, tightens, softens in one small place, or moves somewhere else.
A demand, the first thought about it, and the body can set each other off quickly. Seeing the sequence gives you something real to work with, instead of an argument in your head.
Bring up one specific moment from this week when a demand felt too large, but you kept going anyway. An email, conversation, task, appointment, or expectation is enough.
Find the first sentence your mind says about that moment. Then track the first body change that follows. What changes first, and what changes next?
Choose one thing that still needs your attention today. Picture beginning it in the usual way, and see what happens in the body.
Now picture making one part smaller, later, shorter, or shared with someone else. Compare the two, and keep the option that brings clearer reduction in bracing.
Come back to the simple movement of breathing, and then to the whole weight of your body where it is supported.
Move your fingers a little. Move your toes. Let your shoulders and jaw do only the amount of work they need right now.
Let the sounds of the room come back into focus, and open your eyes when that feels workable.
Take a second to see what you learned about the way your mind, your body, and a demand connect.
Before the next demand, compare doing it at full size with changing one concrete part. Write down your energy before and after, then take the version that asks for less bracing.
You can let your mind be exactly as it is while you go back to your day.
