Full transcript
For ten minutes, nothing is required of you. We are rehearsing the small pause between a harsh verdict and what you do next.
Thoughts will arrive, because minds rather insist on it.
You are not here to stop them.
When you find you have drifted, come back. That finding is the useful part.
You need not catch every word or focus hard. Let the words wash over you.
Let the body be supported where it already is.
Set your attention on one exhale, and follow it to its last detectable movement.
Do not decide beforehand that it has finished. Find when the body begins preparing again.
Stay with the small interval between the ending and the next beginning.
Let another exhale make its own case, without your assistance.
If thought has wandered off, return to this breath without ceremony.
Come back to the breath, and let the hands rest in their own weight.
Bring up one small snag from this week, a delay, a message, a task, or an interaction. Find the first bodily sign that appeared when it went wrong.
Run it from two seconds before the snag. Catch the first label that arrived, then find one plain detail it left out, perhaps a word, a limit, an expression, or a fact.
Return now to the movement of the breath, exactly as it is.
Keep that same moment nearby, and bring in the short phrase or image that names the direction you want your life to lean. Put the two beside one another.
From there, choose one move no larger than five minutes. It may be a plain phrase, one question, or the next physical step. Which would you actually take?
Feel the body again, and let the next breath arrive before you continue.
With your eyes open when you are ready, identify the next ordinary task today. Find its first physical entry point, and choose which small move you will use if a snag appears.
Bring attention back to the breath, then to the shape and weight of the body.
Let the fingers and toes move a little, and hear the sounds of the room again.
Open your eyes, locate that first entry point, and begin it. If a snag appears, wait for one detail your first verdict did not include, then ask what you have missed.
Let the mind be exactly as it is while you return to your day.
