Full transcript
You have ten minutes, and during this time, nothing is being asked of you. We are going to notice anxiety without fighting it, and return to one simple step through your body.
Let your face rest a little, without trying to make a different expression.
Soften your jaw if you notice it is working hard.
Let your shoulders set down the weight they do not need to hold.
Feel your chest as it is right now, without changing it.
Notice your belly, and remember that you have a body, one that has carried you through the whole day.
Let your hands find the place where they are already resting.
Feel your legs from the top down to your knees, without rushing.
Bring your attention to your ankles, your heels, and your feet.
Without adjusting yourself yet, find the spot in each sole that carries the most weight.
Is it near the heel, the outer edge, or the toes? Find it again, and notice whether it changes from one foot to the other.
Thoughts will keep arriving, because that is what minds do. You do not have to stop them to be here.
When you notice you have drifted away, come back to your feet. That return is the practice, and it can happen many times.
From that point in your feet, move slowly upward through your legs.
Notice where the weight changes hands, from foot to leg, and from leg to the seat or the floor.
Find the moment when one area holds less and another begins to hold more. Do not correct anything.
You can stay for a moment with a small change, without pushing it or holding onto it.
Now find the place in your shoulders that is higher or firmer.
Follow one full exhale, from when it begins until it ends.
Wait, and see whether that place changes before, during, or after the air leaves.
Bring to mind one simple task waiting for you today, without solving it. As you name it, notice what changes first in your jaw, chest, belly, or hands, without letting go of your feet.
Choose the smallest gesture that begins that task, touching something, opening a screen, standing up, or walking toward a place.
Before you do it, find your feet. Make only that gesture, and notice which part of your body is still touching a surface.
You do not need to prepare for the whole day right now. It is enough to notice one point of contact and the gesture that follows.
Notice the air coming in and going out again, and feel your whole body here.
Slowly move your fingers and toes. Listen to the sounds already in the room, and open your eyes when you want.
Before moving on, notice what you saw in your mind during these minutes.
Look once more at the object, the screen, or the place where your task begins. Feel one foot on the floor, and make the next concrete gesture.
Stay with that task for two minutes, and let your mind be as it is while you return to it.
