For these ten minutes, nothing is required of you. We are making room for an unanswered message, without checking the phone or solving uncertainty.

Feel the support beneath you, and settle the body down.

Let sounds arrive, then leave, without giving them names.

Listen to the room around you, as it is.

Find the farthest sound you can hear right now.

Let that sound come and go.

Now notice the closest sound available to you.

Hear the small sound of your own breath.

Let your jaw loosen, and feel the weight below.

You need not catch every word, just keep listening.

Let listening include the breath, and the quiet between sounds.

Thoughts will keep arriving, that is what minds do.

Getting lost is not failure. Noticing and coming back is the repetition. It happens many times in a good sitting.

Come back to the weight below you. Choose one place where your body meets chair, floor, or bed.

At that place, find the exact edge where pressure ends. Follow its smallest changes through one breath.

At the same point, find pressure's first change with the in-breath. Find the precise instant it turns back.

Without picking it up, notice the phone's location. Find the earliest physical sign as attention goes there.

That small beginning can be seen before the hand follows its old direction.

Bring the particular message to mind, only enough to recognise it. What arrives first in the body, before planning?

Feel the weight of your hands. Notice the first signal, then the next one.

With the message in mind, leave the phone where it is for three breaths.

On each exhale, find whether any part is preparing to move. Catch the exact instant that preparation begins again.

Come back to the breath and contact point. Notice any preparation forming there, without completing movement.

The impulse can have a beginning, a middle, and changing details, before anything needs to happen.

For this next quiet stretch, feel the contact point, the breath, and each new beginning in the hand.

Return to the breath, and feel the belly moving.

Feel the whole body, then fingers and toes.

Hear the sounds of the room again.

When it feels right, let the eyes open.

Notice what these minutes showed you about your own mind.

When you next reach for the phone, first find the hand's earliest preparation to move. Then choose the next action. Let the mind be as it is as you return to your day.
