Full transcript
For ten minutes, nothing is required of you. This time is for beginning gently, trusting momentum, and meeting ordinary work and hard messages with playfulness and open curiosity.
Let the muscles around your eyes become still.
Allow the jaw to rest without holding itself.
Let the shoulders settle into their actual height.
Feel the chest moving in its own time.
Let the belly be unguarded for this moment.
You have a body, and it has carried you all day.
Let the hands rest exactly where they have arrived.
Feel the legs receiving the support beneath them.
Let the feet meet the floor, or the bed, without adding anything to that contact.
Find the place carrying the most weight now, then find one nearby place carrying less than you assumed, and leave both exactly as they are.
Come back to the breath moving through the settled body.
Follow one out-breath to its last trace, wait there, and find the first instant of the next in-breath before you do anything to make it happen.
A beginning does not need to announce itself with force. The useful movement is often already present, waiting only for your attention to join it.
Bring to mind one ordinary task waiting this week. Find the smallest visible action that puts you in contact with it, then ask whether that action needs another decision before it can be done.
Feel again the weight of your hands and feet.
There is a difference between touching the work itself and arranging thoughts about touching it. Let the smaller, visible action show you which is which.
Bring the pending exchange to mind. Find one fact you can state without a reason, prediction, or verdict, then find what you do not yet know and form the plain question that lets the other person supply it.
Come back to the body resting where it is held.
A clear fact can stand beside an unanswered question. Neither needs to be enlarged before the next reply is made.
Look around the room and find the first physical object required for that next action. Let your eyes rest there, then locate the first movement your hand would make to reach it.
Return to the breath, then feel the body from shoulders to feet.
When the next task asks for your attention, give its first contact two minutes: place the needed item before you, bring the file to the screen, or write the first factual line.
Move the fingers and toes, hear the room around you, let the eyes return when ready, and allow the mind to be as it is as you continue your day.
